BOOKS FOR SCHOOLS:

Class Act Creative produces two very special publications for elementary schools : a Literary/Arts Yearbook™ and an all-school book of student advice, published under the auspices of our Wise Words for the World™ imprint. We also offer a full program including two days of school visits, Project Arts RESPECT™. This program culminates in a Wise Words for the World publication.

1. Literary/Arts Yearbook™: Student work for this publication  focuses on self-exploration through writing and the visual arts. Each student in the school completes a full-color drawing and a related sentence or two. Drawings are reduced in size to fit several on a page. Classes may choose to include additional work as well—e.g., a collaborative poem and a digital photo of a class mural related to some area of study. This all-school book will surely become a family keepsake as well as a record of student academic and social development.

This book is produced in full color. Need ideas for content? We've got a few to share!

2. Wise Words for the World™: Children should be seen and not heard? Not at Class Act Creative! We believe that when adults learn to listen well, children have important things to teach us. This publication is an all-school (or all-district) book that offers advice from students about how both children and adults can make the world a better place. Teachers are encouraged to address issues of respect, integrity, empathy, kindness, etc. in the classroom and help students write and illustrate their best advice for creating a better world.

This book is produced in black and white with a full-color cover.

Here's how the publication programs work.

WHAT YOU DO:

  • Have teachers choose a theme for their class and assign art and writing projects.
  • Have each student complete his or her art assignment on 8-1/2" x 11" unlined paper. The accompanying sentence/s should be typed or clearly written in black marker on a separate sheet of paper.

Bright colors reproduce best for illustrations. Poster paints or colored felt tip markers work great. If students use crayons, watercolors or colored pencils, they should outline their drawings with a black marker. Text should be typed or written with a black marker.

  • Collect provided Parent Permissions for student work to appear in published form.
  • Fill out the provided Project Fact Sheet.
  • Mail or e-mail the Project Fact Sheet with your students' work and Set-Up Fee, if required, to Class Act Creative.

For e-mail submissions, scan your student artwork at 300 dpi's and hand-lettered text at 600 dpi's. Typed e-mailed text must be sent in Word 2003 format. Send snail-mail submissions to Barbara Jean Hicks, Publisher / Class Act Creative / 4456 Antigua Way / Oxnard, CA 93035 and we'll do the scanning for you. Original work will be returned.

  • Send home provided order forms to pre-sell your book to kids and parents.
  • Send a single check with your order to Class Act Creative.
  • Distribute books once they arrive at your school.

WHAT WE DO:

  • Create front and back covers and a title page for your yearbook.
  • Design the book interior.
  • Prepare your students' text and artwork for printing.
  • Send your book off to our high quality digital printer!

Student work in literary/arts yearbooks is printed "As Is," no copyediting provided, in order to provide a record of student growth from year to year. But by all means have your teachers use the goal of a bound, published book to motivate their students to do their very best creative work, plus practice revision and editing skills. Think Language Arts standards. Perhaps Technology standards. Fine Art standards, too.

Schools have an opportunity to purchase these two trade quality books at reduced rates and sell them to students and parents for school fund raising purposes. While the Literary/Arts Yearbook™ will have broad appeal within a school, Wise Words for the World™ will have even broader community appeal. With a barcode and ISBN included as part of the package, schools can arrange to sell books on consignment through their local bookstore for sale to the wider community. Schools may also buy books in bulk and pass on the discount to students and families.

*Note: If your school hosts an author visit from children's author and Class Act Creative publisher Barbara Jean Hicks for the current or coming year, or if you've hosted Barbara for a visiting author program in the last two years, $300 toward the Set-Up Fee for your all-school book is waived.

Yep. You read that right. Set-up for a 24 page full-color book or a 100-page black and white book is FREE, and the set-up fee for longer books is reduced by $300, when you book a day of visiting author presentations and/or workshops. School Visit Program Details here.
